Four things, all of which most people already have.

A supported version of Google Chrome.
SwapCam extension
The downloaded ZIP extracted into a local folder.
Camera
A working webcam or camera.
Compatible website
A supported browser-based video application.
Memory
4GB RAM
The minimum to get up and running.
Graphics
No GPU required
No dedicated graphics card and no AI workstation.

One ZIP
Extract the folder and load it in Chrome.

Which operating systems?

SwapCam is a Chrome extension, so it runs wherever a supported version of Chrome runs — Windows, macOS and Linux included. Performance depends on your individual machine rather than on the operating system.

Installation overview

Four steps from the downloaded ZIP to a working extension.

  1. Download

    Download the latest SwapCam Chrome extension ZIP to your computer.

  2. Extract

    Unzip the downloaded file into a folder you'll keep. Chrome loads the extension from this folder, so don't delete it afterwards.

  3. Load unpacked

    Open Chrome's Extensions page, turn on Developer mode, choose Load unpacked, and select the extracted SwapCam folder.

  4. Start using

    Open your supported video-call website, activate SwapCam, pick your face source, and start your call.

After installation

Two things worth knowing once the extension is loaded.
  • Keep the extracted folder. Chrome loads the extension from that folder every time it starts. Deleting or moving it after installing will break the extension.
  • Updating means re-downloading. Download the newest ZIP, extract it over the existing folder, then press reload on the SwapCam card in Chrome’s Extensions page.
