Why it exists
Real-time face transformation has generally meant one of two things: a heavyweight desktop application with a model pipeline to manage, or a cloud service that uploads your camera feed to someone else’s computer. The first asks for hardware and patience. The second asks you to send your face to a server.
SwapCam takes the third option. It runs inside the browser you are already using for the call, as an extension you load from a folder you control. There is no installer, no account, and no upload step.
How it is built
- Processing stays on your device. Your camera feed is transformed locally and is not transmitted to us. The privacy policy states this in full.
- No account system. There is nothing to sign up for, which means there is no profile to build and nothing to lose in a breach.
- Modest hardware. SwapCam is designed to run without a dedicated graphics card. Performance still varies from machine to machine, and we would rather say that than quote a frame rate we cannot promise.
What we do not claim
This site does not list specific video-call services as “supported.” Compatibility depends on how a given application selects cameras, and naming products we have not tested against would be a guess presented as a fact. When a platform has actually been verified, it will be listed and dated.
The same rule applies to frame rates, user counts, and hardware minimums beyond the ones on the download page. If it is not measured, it is not printed.
On responsibility
Face transformation can be used to deceive people, and pretending otherwise would be dishonest. SwapCam is built for creative work, experimentation and entertainment — not for impersonating real people, evading identity verification, or misleading anyone about who they are talking to.
