The short version. SwapCam processes your camera feed entirely on your own device. Your video is never sent to us, and we operate no server that receives it. We have no account system, so there is nothing for you to sign up for and no profile for us to build.
This policy explains what SwapCam does with your information. It is written to be read, not to be survived — if anything below is unclear, treat that as our failure and ask us about it.
Your camera feed stays on your device
SwapCam is a Chrome extension. When you enable it, the transformation runs inside your own browser, on your own machine, using your own hardware. The video frames from your camera are read, transformed and handed to the page you are using, all locally.
We never receive your video. Camera frames, the transformed output, and the source images you select are not uploaded, not streamed to us, and not stored on any server we control. There is no “send to cloud” step in the pipeline, because there is no cloud component.
One consequence worth stating plainly: because everything happens locally, performance depends on your computer rather than on our infrastructure. That is a deliberate trade. It is also why we cannot recover, replay or inspect anything you did with the extension — we genuinely do not have it.
What is stored, and where
SwapCam keeps a small amount of data in your browser’s local extension storage so that it behaves sensibly between sessions:
- Your preferences — the settings you have chosen, so they persist when you reopen Chrome.
- Your selected source image — held locally so you do not have to re-pick it every time.
This data lives on your computer, under your browser profile. It is not synchronised to us. Removing the extension from Chrome, or clearing its storage from the Extensions page, deletes it. You do not need to ask our permission or submit a request, because we are not holding a copy.
This website
The site you are reading is separate from the extension. Like most websites, it is served by a hosting provider that keeps standard server logs — IP address, browser user-agent, requested page, and timestamp — for a limited period, for security and operational reasons. That is ordinary infrastructure logging, not analytics profiling.
We do not run advertising trackers or third-party analytics scripts on this site, and the site does not set cookies to identify you.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your data. There is no data to sell.
- We do not require an account, an email address, or a sign-in.
- We do not build advertising profiles or share information with data brokers.
- We do not use your camera input to train models.
Your rights
Privacy law in several jurisdictions gives you rights to access, correct, export or delete the personal data a company holds about you. Those rights apply to us in an unusual way: we do not hold personal data about you in the first place, so in practice the data you might ask us to delete is already exclusively in your own hands, and is removed when you uninstall the extension.
If you believe we hold something about you regardless, contact us at support@swapcam.online and we will answer honestly.
Children
SwapCam is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. Given that we collect nothing, the practical point is different: face transformation tools can be misused against young people, and the Responsible Use guidelines set out what we expect from you on that front.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a way that affects how your information is handled, we will update the date at the top of this page. Should the on-device processing promise in section 1 ever cease to be accurate, we would treat that as a material change requiring clear, prominent notice — not a quiet edit.
